We’re going home

The morning of the 23rd of June 2015 was an ordinary day at the hospital. It was one of my days where I worked from hospital so both Jolandie and I were there. Now from day one the nurses will tell you not to plan ahead, you  will go home when the doctor feels it is safe for you to do so. That morning the mood of the nurses was just different, it was like they felt it might be the day. So we got to bath Gavin and as he was wearing clothes by now, we dressed him in his prem baby clothes. Professor van Niekerk did his rounds around 9am that morning, and asked us “Do you want to go home?” Music to our ears! We immediately agreed that we will go home with Gavin and just bring him back on Friday for a checkup. We still had to wait for the pediatrician to sign off on the forms, so had around 2 hours to get all of Gavin’s items packed and get the car ready! Once Dr. Muller signed us out, we said our last goodbyes to the nursing staff at Kloof Mediclinic NICU – who by this time was like family to us.

We placed Gavin in his baby car seat and I still remember thinking wow, we going home with this little baby who almost seems lost in the car seat! 28 Days later and it was the beginning of a great adventures with little Gavin and we couldn’t wait for it to start!
